Why Cornwall is built for family holidays

Cornwall makes family holidays easy. Sandy beaches with rock pools, harbour towns that feel like adventures, fresh-air days that send the kids to bed without an argument. Our family cottages add proper space and proper kitchens to the equation.

Cots & high chairs

Most of our family cottages provide travel cots and high chairs free of charge. Just let us know how many you need at the time of booking.

Enclosed gardens

Many of our family properties have fully enclosed gardens — safe space for the kids to run while you keep half an eye through the kitchen window.

Real family space

Multiple bedrooms, proper living rooms and dining tables that fit everyone. Sleeps four to twelve depending on the cottage.

Family kitchens

Dishwashers, washing machines, decent ovens and enough cutlery to actually serve everyone at once. The unglamorous stuff that matters on day three.

A Cornwall family holiday, planned for you

Cornwall is one of those rare places where a family holiday genuinely works for everyone. Toddlers love the rock pools. Teenagers find surf lessons and a coffee shop with WiFi. Parents get a kitchen big enough to actually cook in. Grandparents get a proper armchair by a window.

Family-friendly things to do

  • Rock pooling — Daymer Bay, Trevone, Mawgan Porth and Kennack Sands have the best low-tide pools.
  • The Eden Project — biomes, ziplines and educational without being preachy. A genuinely brilliant day out.
  • The Lost Gardens of Heligan — a Victorian estate turned into a giant outdoor playground.
  • Newquay Zoo and Cornish Seal Sanctuary — close to plenty of our family cottages.
  • Surf schools — Polzeath, Watergate Bay and Sennen all run kid-friendly group lessons.
  • St Ives Tate — surprisingly kid-friendly, with hands-on family activities most school holidays.

Packing for a family Cornwall trip

Layers, always. Cornish weather is its own thing — bright sun, sudden mist, an Atlantic shower and back to sun again, all before lunch. Bring sun cream, wellies, swimsuits and waterproofs. Beach toys can be left at home; most family cottages have a basket of them by the door.

Frequently asked questions about family stays

Quick answers to the questions guests ask us most.

Are cots and high chairs provided?

Most of our family cottages provide travel cots and high chairs free of charge. The exact baby kit (including stair gates, bath seats and changing mats) varies by property — each listing shows what's included. If anything is missing, let us know at booking and we'll see what the owner can sort.

How many people do the family cottages sleep?

Our family-friendly cottages sleep anywhere from four to twelve guests. The grid above shows the sleeping capacity for each property — most have a mix of double rooms, twin rooms and family bunks. Larger gatherings (cousins, grandparents) are easily accommodated in our biggest properties.

Are the gardens fenced and child-safe?

The majority of our family cottages have fully enclosed gardens. Each listing flags exactly what to expect — fence height, gates, any pond or pool nearby, and proximity to roads. If a fully secure garden is essential, filter for it before booking.

Are there age restrictions?

None of our family-friendly cottages have age restrictions — children of all ages are welcome. (Some of our adult-only or "Romantic" collection properties may have minimum age requirements; those are clearly marked separately.)

Are family-friendly attractions nearby?

Yes — most of our family cottages sit within easy reach of Cornwall's best family attractions: the Eden Project, Heligan, Newquay Zoo, the Seal Sanctuary, surf schools, riding stables and dozens of family-friendly beaches. We send a local recommendations guide with your booking.

Can we bring the dog too?

Many of our family cottages are also dog-friendly. Filter by both "Family" and "Dog Friendly" on our search page, or use our dedicated dog-friendly collection.

Is there parking for two cars?

Most family properties have parking for two or more cars — useful when extended family come along. The exact number is in each listing's details. Family cottages in fishing villages with permit-only parking will have nearby allocated spaces clearly described.
